The Memory Keeper's Burden

As darkness gives way to a soft white

a gentle tide stirs within, so light

my deep sleep surrenders to morning’s grace

I slowly awaken, to a new day’s embrace

My dreams start to bid adieu

and start fading from my view

I can hear my heart’s palpitation

as I grab a fragile memory in desperation

Now my heart is full of hope

victory is mine, celebrations galore

but at the end of this invisible rope

a battle is won, but the war is lost

For today, I shall not fully be,

the memory strand will haunt me

from morning, noon till night

I will seek freedom from the fight

So great is the suffering,

A prayer becomes an offering

From a weary mind, body, and soul so sore

For the memory thread to haunt no more

The memory keeper's burden, a silent cost I bear,

As I close my eyes, I wonder, will tomorrow bring repair?

What tomorrow brings, remains concealed

…a secret yet to be revealed
